7th December 2010
V8 SuperCars Rock Christchurch

Again 12 drivers turned out for the 2nd round of 1/24th cars in our "end of  year series" on the 7th December 2010, this time with V8 SuperCar bodies.

2 old faces appeared out of the woodwork, Chris and Shannon - Welcome back guys !

6 drivers ran in Division 3 first, and this turned out to be the most exciting and closest racing of the night.

Steve had car troubles with the body falling off at one stage.
Josh is a bit rusty from a few weeks away and also had car troubles early on, leaving Warren to be the fastest novice of the night.
Dave, Shannon and Brendon were all flying, and any of them could have won the top spot going into the final heat, but it was Brendon who kept his cool under the pressure to beat Shannon by just 14 segments overall !!!

1st    Brendon            84.50 laps
2nd   Shannon            84.36
3rd    Dave                 83.71
4th    Warren             72.19
5th    Josh                 59.89
6th    Steve                38.81

Division 2 had 4 drivers with Chris showing he hasn't forgotten how to drive a slotcar !
Paul borrowed a car and kept the pressure on Pete for 3rd place.
Baz had 2 excellent heats (with 22 laps each) to put him a the top of the podium spraying the Champagne.

1st    Baz                 86.00 laps
2nd   Chris                84.75
3rd    Pete                82.32
4th    Paul                80.36

With Barry and Adam missing in action it was up to John and Kerry to fight it out for the Division 1 points.
Brendon and Shannon also ran to full the field.
Shannon had car troubles and sadly didn't run the last heat.
Brendon showed once again he's no novice and will definitely be moving up the divisions in the near future !
There was only 1/2 a lap separating Kerry and John with 1 heat to go, but sadly Johns car slowed down due to a burnt-out braid, and that left Kerry to take the win comfortably.

1st    Kerry                  91.19 laps
2nd   Brendon              88.47
3rd    John                   87.99
4th    Shannon             50.77

Next week is the final Parma Int32 round, so get your "Backside Trackside" !

Cheers,
Kerry            : )

It was good to see Brendon V turn up again all the way from Ashburton and he is showing good car speed running a Team Radford car. Bas Milicich has now got a taste for winning and turned in another good performance once again. BACK TO GRASS ROOTS RACING AT THE CHRISTCHURCH CLUB
16th November 2010

It was decided at a recent meeting held at the club that we should get back to the class that club racing has been built on and that is 32 racing so after an open discussion we went be back to divisional racing on 16th November. For the next few months we will race 32nds and every second week 24ths  and give the other classes a rest, hopefully this will help build up good numbers and close racing in these two classes. We want to see good numbers turning up each week so lets get behind this format of racing and if you need any tuning tips then don't be afraid to ask.

Results from racing held on Tuesday night 16th November...........International 32,s

Barry and Adam had a ding dong battle all night with Barry having no offs proving to be be the difference. Kerry raced hard but lacked car speed and had to settle for third spot after John had a mechanical problem in the first heat which ruined his night for over all honours.

Bas Milicich showed good speed to hold out Peter Darrell in group 2 with Paul Hamilton slowly getting back to racing slotties grabbing third spot from a disappointing Peter Allen.

Division 2 Bas Milicich 82.23, Peter Darrell 81.54, Paul Hamilton 77.09, Peter Allen 69.89

Fun night with GP Cars - 28th Sept 2010

Most of the Quakechurch club members must have spent the night rebuilding their chimneys, as only 7 turned up to race on the 28th September.
Sadly JT couldn’t even stay as he had a call-out and had to rush off back to work !
It was decided to run a group of 3 drivers with 1/24th LMP cars.

Josh is improving every week, and did well with his own car (rather than running one of the half-wrecked club cars).
Luckily Dave had built a big lead after the first 3 heats because he then had car troubles in the last heat, but still won.

1st    Dave               66.89 laps
2nd   Steve              63.06
3rd   Josh                59.95

The last 3 drivers ran the 1/24th GP cars.

Pete had his GP car flying but troubles with his controller meant he lost valuable laps in the first 2 heats.
Barry’s car had handling problems and was off the pace, leaving Kerry to win all the heats and spray the large bottle of Champagne from the top step of the podium !

1st    Kerry              88.30 laps
2nd   Barry              82.81
3rd   Pete               76.99

Next week 1/24th LMP/GTP Ladder night, so get your chimney fixed up and car ready and “get your Back-side Track-side” for this prestigious meeting with huge prize money and sponsorship deals at stake !!!

Cheers,
Kerry

TOOMEY AND RADFORD SLUG IT OUT IN 32 SALOONS - 21st Sept 2010

International 32 saloons were on the menu at our recent meeting which was held on the 21st of September at the Christchurch track. A disappointing number of only 8 runners fronted with 6 of our normal drivers not making it on the night but for those who turned up the racing was fast and furious.

John Truman continued on his winning way in group B beating the club prez Peter Darrell in the process. Baz Milicich put is newly painted Dodge Viper GT through its paces only to be told that its not actually a saloon.

Group B results JT 72.22, Darrell 69.29, Young Josh 60.85, Young Warren 48.79

In the next group the 16D class it was Barry Toomey who proved to be to fast on the night and built up a sizeable lead over a determined Kerry Radford with Baz Milicich battling to say with the pace.

Group A results Toomey 83.45, Radford 77.91, Milicich 74.28, Dave Reese 51.84.

In the final race of the night The Falcon Free For All it was Toomey and Radford who had a ding dong battle but when the results were added up it was Toomey still smarting from his second placing to a gloating Radford the previous week it was Toomey who won gold, Radford had to settle for silver.

Results Toomey 84.79,Radford 84.13,Milicich 79.21,Darrell 75.97,JT 68.98,Young Josh 45.46.

LETS SEE A BETTER TURNOUT NEXT WEEK TO OUR FEATURE CLASS .....GRAND PRIX CARS

Cheers

Ford wins again ! 14th Sept 2010.

12 drivers turned out for the 1/24th V8 SuperCar night on the 14th September 2010.
3 divisions of 4 drivers each battled it out over 4 heats.
Dave had car problems in Red lane and that dropped him to last.

Warren drove one of the dodgy club cars consistently for 3rd in the group, but it was Shannon and JT who were very close for first place, with JT holding his nerve in the last heat for the gold medal.

1st    JT                  79.41 laps
2nd   Shannon        78.41
3rd   Warren           64.24
4th   Dave               63.41

Aaron’s V8 needed a tune-up.
Chris had a gear let go in one heat, which took him out contention.
So it was the 2 Pete’s who fought it out for 1st place, with Peter Allen putting in a great 22-lap heat on yellow lane, which gave him the edge and the gold medal.

1st    Peter (A)        85.97 laps
2nd   Peter (D)        82.16

3rd   Chris              78.38
4th   Aaron             70.44

There was a tight 3-way battle going into the last heat of the top division, with Kerry ahead of Barry from John, all within a lap.
Barry and his Holden Commodore won the final heat, but not by enough to win overall, so Kerry and his Ford Falcon took the gold medal.

1st    Kerry             92.77 laps
2nd   Barry             92.50
3rd   John               91.13

4th   Baz                83.05

Get those 1/32nd saloon bodies dusted-off, because next week is the new “Saloon 16D Int32” class, and possibly a consolation “Saloon Falcon7 Int32” race.

Cheers,

Parma Int32 Ladder night on 7th Sept 2010.

We had 17 drivers last week, but only 8 this week.
The others were probably rebuilding their chimneys !!!

Barry, Dave, Chris and Steve were regulars missing in action.
Adam arrived too late to rock’n roll, but helped marshal.

With just 8 drivers we had a random-draw 4 heat run-through.

Things got of to a shakey start – Ha ha         ; )
Josh brought along a mate Mitch who used one of the dodgy club cars and did well.
JT just managed to edge out Pete (A) by less than ˝ a lap in a close battle there.
Peter (D) just beat Baz to get on the podium.
John traded his Toomey-Built car which had no grip, for a Radford-Race-Engineered car and delivered the team a 1, 2 finish !
; )

1st    Kerry             82.90 laps
2nd   John              82.22
3rd   Peter (D)        77.65
4th   Baz                75.97
5th   JT                  71.06
6th   Peter (A)        70.63
7th   Josh               60.16
8th   Mitch              46.84

Next week 1/24th V8 SuperCars, assuming the building is still standing.

1/24th F1 Cars 1/24th Saloons

31st August 2010 - LMP

17 drivers turned up for the 1/24th LMP Demolition-Derby on the 31st August 2010.
A novice group was run first with a new guy Jethro racing for the first time.
Surprisingly the novices had the best incident-free racing of the night.
It was a close battle between Warren and Steve, with Steve winning by just over half a lap.

1st   Steve            67.79 laps
2
nd   Warren           67.26
3
rd   Josh             62.73
4
th   Jethro           57.99

After that 14 drivers were divided into 2 divisions of 7.

We raced the “2nd Division” drivers first, and it was expected that it would be a Demolition-Derby - They did not disappoint !!!
Plenty of marshalling (and yelling) was happening while cars were flying off the track and piling up on corners all over the show.
In the mayhem Peter Darrell had one of the best drives he’s had in a long time, and cleared away from the rest of the field for an easy win.
Lex and Paul both showed they have not forgotten how to drive in there time away, with Lex just snatching 2
nd place by less than half a lap.

1st   Peter (D)       91.82 laps
2
nd   Lex             85.04
3
rd   Paul            84.68
4
th   JT              81.75
5
th   Peter (A)       76.68
6
th   Aaron           65.78
7
th   Steve           61.62

The Demolition Derby continued with the “1st Division” drivers, with pile-ups (and of course more yelling !).
Shannon and John spent time in the sin-bin and that ruined their chances of podium glory.
Dave and Chris had a close battle with Chris beating his ole-man by less than 3 laps.
Adam had some tangle ups but still won by just over 2 laps from Barry (whose car was on the floor at one stage during the Derby !).

1st   Adam           100.01 laps
2
nd   Barry           97.87
3
rd   Kerry           93.48
4
th   Chris           84.91
5
th   Dave            82.20
6
th   John            82.08
7
th   Shannon         52.71

I’m sure Marshalling will be discussed at length during the next committee meeting !

Next week the Int32 Ladder.

Cheers,
Kerry

10th August 2010 - Group 12/15

The Feature race for 10th August 2010 was Group 12/15 cars, but first we held a Parma32 race for those without Group 12/15’s.
John and Baz were missing in action this week, but Steve made a return as well as Paul Hamilton later in the evening.

It was good to see Josh and Warren returning for more racing and Josh did well considering he was running one of the heavy and poor handling club cars.
Steve and JT had a very close fight for 3rd place.
Shannon was too consistent in all 4 of his heats for last weeks flyer Dave to stop him taking the top step of the podium.

1st    Shannon           78.62 laps
2nd   Dave                 73.19
3rd    JT                     67.38

Barry had car problems early in his first heat and also missed the 2nd heat while repairing his car.
Pete and Kerry had close racing with them both finishing one heat on exactly the same laps and segments.
Adam showed his class to take off comfortably from the rest of the field at the start of each heat and cruise home winning easily.

1st    Adam               94.01 laps
2nd   Kerry                84.94
3rd    Pete                 79.48
4th    Barry                47.51

8th      Shannon
9th     JT
10th   JR
11th    Warren

With Adam away this time he'll start his next 1/24th ladder night from the bottom group so things will be more difficult for him, but will anyone now beat the new "in-form" Dave ??? - Probably not !!!         : )

 Next week Group 12/15.

Go the AB’s !!!

Kerry             : )

Fun Night 27th July 2010

Both Barry’s (T & M) and John’s (H & R) were away, but long time racer Peter Allen showed up !

First we had a run-through of 1/24th LMP cars.

A new guy Kim raced, and Josh did well to do 17 laps in yellow lane on only his 3rd appearance.

Chris had bad luck in his first heat with the car being knocked into another lane and hitting the fence at full power wrecking the spur-gear and his chances of a podium finish.
With both Barry and John away the responsibility fell on Dave to do the time-honoured tradition of jumping the start !
Shannon managed to race his car to 3rd place, even though the body had disintegrated and was flapping around.
Peter Allen proved he hasn’t lost any speed in his time away, and finished 2nd overall.
In each of his heats Adam took off Quicker than Sonny Bill Williams through the Hawke’s Bay back line and gave the opposition a SlotCar lesson !

1st    Adam                88.87 laps

2nd    Peter (A)           86.65
3rd    Shannon           73.99
4th    Dave                 71.78
5th    Chris                 69.45
6th    Josh                  65.51
7th    Kim                   57.63

Just 3 1/24th GP cars contested that class, with Peter Darrell winning one of the heats and Kerry winning the other 3.

1st    Kerry                  91.12 laps

2nd   Peter (D)             84.74
3rd    JT                      77.91

Next week 1/24th LMP/GTP Ladder !!!

Cheers,

Kerry             : )

16D Int32’s on the 20th July 2010

10 drivers turned up to race, with Warren returning for the 4th week and Josh for the 2nd time.
JT and Steve were missing in action.
A novice Falcon powered class had a 4-heat run-through first.
After the 3rd heat Dave, Warren and JR were all on the same lap and it came down to who held their nerve at the last, with Dave taking the spoils !

1st    Dave            64.04  laps
2nd    JR              63.11
3rd    Warren          62.02
4th    Josh            52.06

For the 16D Feature event Adam ran a Falcon powered car for some of the heats so officially DQ’d himself.
John had forgotten the last time he’d raced his 16D Int32 and it had rear tyres like rock, so had to borrow a car from Barry.
Barry (T) was the only driver who wasn’t too “rusty” with the 16D Int32’s, and cleared off for a comfortable win.

1st    Barry (T)       88.58 laps
DQ     Adam            86.35 – DQ’d
2nd    John            82.67
3rd    Kerry           82.21
4th    Dave            77.65
5th    Pete            74.86
6th    Baz             73.41

After so much racing with the newer easier-driving/more-forgiving 1/24th cars, obviously a lot more practice is needed by the rest of the club with these trickier older class of cars !!!

Next week FUN NIGHT with 1/32nd and 1/24th GP racing, possibly in teams (?).

Cheers,
Kerry           : )

V8 SuperCars on the 13th July 2010

It was good to see 13 drivers turn up and race, with our new guy Warren returning for his 3rd week.
The drivers where split into 2 groups for a 4-heat run-through.

Dave had controller problems and had his car taking off at full speed with the slightest touch of the trigger.
Steve, JR and JT had a really close battle, with JT just beating his good mate JR to avoid any ribbing there.

Shannon and Chris turned up after a few weeks missing-in-action and showed they had not forgotten how to drive slotcars.
They both showed too much pace for the rest of the guys and should be running in the top group next time !

1st    Chris           87.45 laps
2nd    Shannon         83.06
3rd    JT              72.12
4th    JR              70.44
5th    Steve           69.76
6th    Dave            68.77
7th    Warren          56.84

Pete had his Holden Commodore Police car flying off the track at times (perhaps he was being shot at ???)
Adam had some very fast laps but got tangled up in accidents and that probably cost him some heat wins.
John and Barry had a very close battle with Barry winning by a lap and a half after the dust had settled.

1st    Barry (T)       96.05 laps
2nd    John            94.52
3rd    Kerry           91.65
4th    Adam            91.00
5th    Baz             81.55
6th    Pete            78.20

Next week 1/32nd Parma Int32 16D racing.

Cheers,
Kerry           : )

1/24th LMP/GTP on 22nd June 2010

With Dave still in QLD and regulars Chris, Lex and Peter (A) missing in action numbers were light, but we had a new guy Warren show up to race.

First a Parma Int32 race was held with JT, Pete, Steve and Warren.

1st   Pete             77.92 laps
2nd   JT               73.03
3rd   Steve            62.45
4th   Warren           40.99

For the 1/24th cars a run-through was held for all 8 drivers firstly.

Results :-

1st   Barry (T)       105.27 laps
2nd   Adam            103.78
3rd   John            101.20
4th   Kerry           100.33
5th   Baz              95.96
6th   Pete             89.43
7th   JT               82.12

8th   Steve            70.09

Then we had a 4 minute one-heat “Shoot-Out” with the highest qualifier getting lane choice.
Baz gave the rest of the B-Final field a slotcar lesson with fast and consistent laps.

In the A-Final Adam had a flying start quite literally, flying off the track onto the floor costing him any real chance of winning.
Barry had too much pace for the rest of the field and took a comfortable win.

Results :-

1st   Barry (T)        35.12 laps
2nd   Kerry            32.63
3rd   John             32.38
4th   Adam             32.31
5th   Baz              33.41
6th   Pete             30.84
7th   JT               27.48
8th   Steve            25.24

Next week a Practice and Tuning night.

Cheers,
Kerry
: )

On 15th June 2010 we ran both 1/32nd and 1/24th GP cars.

With Dave sunning himself in Queensland, and arrest warrants out for Chris and Lex, we only had 8 drivers for the night.
Firstly we ran a “knock-out” format with only 2 drivers at a time for 2 minutes on 1 lane each, for both 1/32nd then 1/24th GP cars.
Twice during the night there were false starts with drivers taking off before the Green light (in other words “Cheating” !!!).

Barry Toomey was involved in both incidents (surprise surprise), claiming “my finger slipped” – Yeah Right !!!           ; )

1/32nd Individual Results :-

1st    Barry “The-Dog-Ate-My-Homework” Toomey
2nd   Adam
3rd    Pete

4th    Kerry
5th    Baz
6th    Steve
7th    JR

1/24th Individual Results :-

1st    John
2nd   Barry “The-Dog-Ate-My-Homework” Toomey
3rd    Adam
4th    Kerry
5th    Pete
6th    Baz
7th    Steve
8th    JR

Later we had a teams race with 2 drivers at a time for 2 minutes over 2 lanes for each driver.

1/24th Teams race :-

“Toomey’s Terrors” with Barry (T), Steve, Baz and Kerry doing 118.00 laps
“Hawkins Heroes” with John, JR, Adam and Pete doing 116.38 laps.

Next week 1/24th LMP/GTP cars.

Cheers,
Kerry

V8 Supercars were raced on the 8th June 2010

With all the rain we’ve had, the roof had leaked and Red Lane had swelled causing the cars to jump out, so everyone had to take that part of the lane slowly or have their car marshalled.

With 12 drivers it was decided to have 2 groups of 6.
Lex and Chris were the noticeable absentees for the night.
Dave had a night to forget with Controller problems.
Aaron was off his usual pace.

JT and Steve are steadily improving, with Steve getting the Bronze medal.
Peter (D) had his Police car speeding at times, but was given a ticket for being more than 4 km/h over the speed limit, and we kept the Silver medal as our form of revenue gathering.
Shannon cleared away from the rest of the field to easily get the Gold medal.

Race Results :-

1st    Shannon              83.55 laps
2nd   Peter (D)              76.61
3rd    Steve                   69.95
4th    JT                        69.46
5th    Aaron                   69.06

6th    Dave                    67.42

Adam was flying but decided not to race on the Red lane.
Peter (A) didn’t realise the bump on Red lane was flicking his car out, so had that marshall busy during that heat.
John was off his usual pace.
Kerry like most had a poor run on Red lane, but just managed to get a Bronze medal.
Baz had great run on Yellow lane to gain a Silver medal for him.
But Barry (T) was the most consistent winning him the Gold medal.

Race Results :-

1st    Barry (T)              92.43 laps
2nd   Baz                     89.54
3rd    Kerry                   89.29
4th    John                    88.81
5th    Peter (A)              86.11
6th   Adam                    71.84

Next week 1/32nd and 1/24th GP cars or Submarines, depending on the amount of rain.

Cheers,
Kerry

Group 12/15 night on 1st June 2010

Barry (T) was missing (he was on his deathbed with “Man Flu”).
The feature race was Group 12/15, but the first race was Int32’s.
Dave just managed to edge out JT by ˝ a lap once the dust had settled for 3
rd place.
Aaron has improved very quickly on the tricky Christchurch track (he’d previously raced SlotCars in Queensland), to get a well deserved 2
nd place.
But Adam gave the field a SlotCar lesson, comfortably winning, and at times waiting for Aaron to catch up.

1st   Adam        83.64 laps
2
nd   Aaron       80.22
3
rd   Dave        70.67
4
th   JT          70.01
5
th   Steve       63.32

John also dealt a lesson to the other Group 12/15 guys, with fast and consistent heats giving him a massive lead in each heat and an easy win.

1st   John        93.47 laps
2
nd   Kerry       81.50
3
rd   Baz         80.58
4
th   Pete        79.82

Next week 1/24th V8 SuperCars !

Cheers,

Kerry          : )

1/24th Ladder Night on 25th May 2010

Aaron made an appearance early on, but had an emergency phone call and had to leave before racing began.
Baz was missing in action.
Paul Hamilton didn’t turn up, which probably means he’s back in the land of Oz ?
But later in the night the ghost of Jono turned up for a look !

2 run-throughs were held, seeded from the previous 1/24th ladder positions.

The lower ranked group had their demolition derby first.
JR borrowed JT’s 1/24th GP car and ran that.
Lex had a great run in yellow lane with 22.37, but 3 poor runs in the other lanes with only 19 laps in each.
Chris and Peter (A) were the pace setters, but both got caught up in the carnage at times, with Pete just squeaking past by less than ˝ a lap once the dust had settled !

1st    Peter (A)   95.97 laps
2nd    Chris       95.61
3rd    Shannon     86.05
4th    Lex         80.70
5th    JT          76.56
6th    Steve       71.16
7th    JR          64.42

The top ranked group raced next, with only slightly less carnage !
Dave and Pete had car troubles and weren’t on the pace.
Adam did 2 heats with 26 laps to send him to top qualifying spot for the finals.

1st    Adam        103.33 laps
2nd    Barry       99.91
3rd    John        98.87
4th    Kerry       96.92
5th    Peter (D)   85.14
6th    Dave        74.53

With only JR in the D final he won that by default.

The C final had Lex clearing out from the pack early to cruise home.

In the B final Chris lead for most of the race only to get pipped at the post by Pete (A) again !!! – Well done Pete.

Adam was just too fast in the A final, and won it easily !

Barry was taken out early in the race by Kerry causing Barry to believe he was the only driver all night to have any bad luck – Yeah Right !        ; )

1st    Adam        26.88 laps
2nd    John        24.91
3rd    Barry       24.35
4th    Kerry       23.53
5th    Peter (A)   23.04
6th    Chris       22.85
7th    Shannon     22.35
8th    Peter (D)   18.08
9th    Lex         20.10
10th   Dave        19.41
11th   JT          18.34
12th   Steve       16.85
13th   JR

Next week Group12/15.

The CRUSADE is over ………

18th May 2010

We decided to run GP cars on the “Fun Night” to have another opportunity to run the new 1/24th JK GP cars.
But first we had a Parma 32 race for novices and those without GP cars.

Shannon ran his 1/24th car and was DQ’d.
JR beat his mate JT
; )
JT had his new PWM controller and was getting use to that (well that’s his excuse and he’s sticking with it !).
Dave managed to stay out of most of the carnage, but Chris was too good for the rest of the field and he left them in his dust !

1st   Chris        74.32 laps
2
nd   Dave         66.86
3
rd   JR           63.62
4
th   Steve        61.55
5
th   JT           60.10
6
th   Shannon      83.64 (DQ’d)

We ran 1/32nd GP cars next.
Most of the field had borrowed cars and struggled to get used to them.
Barry (T) and John were too good for the rest of the field with 3 laps between them and daylight back to the rest of the pack !

1st   Barry (T)    86.80 laps
2
nd   John         83.73
3
rd   Kerry        78.44
4

Finally we ran the 1/24th GP cars (and had to share 5 cars between 7 drivers).
Lex and his new car were missing in action !
JT had car troubles, leaving him at the bottom.
Pete (D) had his Jaguar flying of the track (higher than Dave’s helicopters go) several times !
John was the only one who managed a 24 lap heat, and with 3 other consistent heats won by more than a lap from Kerry.

Well done John !

1st   John          91.65 laps
2
nd   Kerry         90.51
3
rd   Barry (T)     88.86
4

5
th   Peter (D)     82.05
6
th   Baz           80.65
7
th   JT            60.54

With 14 different drivers and running 3 classes and tape lifting on the track it was a long night and racing didn’t finish until well after 10pm !

Next week 1/24th LMP/GTP cars for the Ladder !

The CRUSADE continues ………

Kerry         : )

Int32 16D night on 11th May 2010

It was good to see Shannon turn up again, but unfortunately he ran his 1/24th car, and therefore was DQ’d, but it was interesting seeing him chase down JR and Steve after giving them 4 lap head starts !

JR and Steve raced for the battle of the novices, with Steve winning by nearly 5 laps.

1st   Steve         62.32 laps
2nd    JR            57.48
3rd   Shannon       63.76 (DQ)

Paul Hamilton returned again this week, and with John and Barry away was the only “Ole-Timer” racing !!!             ; )

Baz had car troubles and retired before his last heat.
Dave nearly gave Chris a hiding – Next time Dave !
Paul borrowed a car from Kerry and showed he hasn’t forgotten how to drive with a Bronze medal finish.
Pete has taken to being the Big fish (in our small pond) with the new Presidency etc, and took a Silver medal home.
Kerry managed to keep out of the carnage in his heats to cruise to victory and a Gold medal.

1st   Kerry         80.50 laps
2nd   Peter (D)     75.88
3rd   Paul          72.28
4th   Chris         70.09
5th   Dave          69.20
6th   Baz           51.91

Next week is the “FUN NIGHT”, and we will be running the new 1/24th GP cars, and 1/32nd GP cars for those who don’t have one yet.

The CRUSADE continues ………

27th April 2010

12 runners turned up for our V8 Supercar race on Tuesday 27th April with Paul Hamilton arriving back from the gold coast for a brief holiday visit. Due to work commitments Adam Brice could not race but turned up later in the evening to help marshal and run the computer. It was once again good to see the less experienced runners showing big improvements and these guys are really starting to enjoy their racing. Drivers were once again split up into 2 groups which is proving to be good with guys driving with people of the same ability.

Group B results
Lex Omand 85.34, Peter Allen 84.94, Aaron Graham 84.49, Peter Darrell 80.66, Dave Reese 75.06, John Truman 71.36,

TOOMEY RETAINS TOP LADDER SPOT IN INTERNATIONAL 32,S

It was International 32 ladder night once again and 11 drivers turned out to give it their best shot at retaining the number 1 position. Adam Brice could not make the nights racing so he was the only big name missing on an otherwise enjoyable night. It was good to see some new names racing and they are improving each night. Drivers were split into two sections with each driver having four three minute races with the top driver from slower group gaining promotion to the faster group.

GROUP B RESULTS
Peter Darrell 78.99, Aaron Graham 75.11, Dave Reese 70.50, JT 64.10, Steve Gibbins 61.97, Shannon Williamson 61.06

In the fast group Barry Toomey had his 32 firing from the start and after having an early tussle with John Hawkins said good night nurse to the rest of the field. Hawkins had more offs than he could remember but still had a big advantage over the likes of Kerry Radford, Baz Milicich, Peter Darrell and Chris Reese.

GROUP A RESULTS
Toomey 91.68, Hawkins 86.84, Radford 82.36, Milicich 82.19, Darrell 80.93, Reese 70.95

John Hawkins borrowed a Radford car and finished close on the team boss’s heels.

Barry Toomey was a notable absentee.

In Group two Lex Omand returned to eventually get the better of Pete Darrell, while Aaron showed good enough form to suggest that he no longer deserves the “rookie’’ tag by winning in group 3.

Regulars Barry (T), Peter (A) and Lex were missing in action, but there was still 12 drivers for the night.

The first heats had 4 drivers.
New drivers Steve and JR did well, particularly with JR having to race a 1/24th GP car against the faster LMP cars.
JT is improving quickly and was less than a lap behind Shannon at the end.

The next heats had 5 drivers, with the winner qualifying up to the top group.
These heats had the closest racing of the night !
Aaron is learning the tricky CHCH track quickly, and is improving every week.

Baz, Pete and Chris had a winner-takes-all final heat.

Chris racing in the blue lane did 23 laps to clinch the (heat and overall) win.
All 3 of them finished within just over a lap from each other when it all came out in the wash !

16th March 2010

TOOMEY AND BRICE BATTLE FOR 24TH LADDER TOP SPOT

10 runners fronted for the 24th ladder LMP/GTP class at our meeting held on the 16th march.
Some of the top runners have now switched to running a Super 16d Parma setup using a Proslot 38 degree timed arm with a ball raced can to cut down on wearing out the Falcon 7 motors and this combination has certainly made for some very quick racing.

In the GROUP B class John Hawkins who arrived late was clearly to good for the rest and won from an ever improving Aaron Graham who has only been with the club for a short time.

Results were John Hawkins 60.73, Aaron Graham 56.81, Dave Reese 52.16, JT 49.28, Steve Gibbins 39.94.

In GROUP A  it was Barry Toomey and Adam Brice who found the new motor setups to their liking and left the others to battle for the other places with Kerry Radford still putting in some good laps with his Falcon 7. When the computer added up the laps it was Toomey who held on to win by 17 segments.

Results were Barry Toomey 69.98,Adam Brice 69.81,Kerry Radfrord 67.61,Peter Darrell 59.93,Barry Milicich 58.07.

LADDER PLACINGS Toomey, Brice, Radford, Hawkins, Darrell, Milicich, Graham, Dave Reese, JT, Gibbins.

Cheers Barry Toomey

23rd February 2010

V8 SuperCar Racing was on the Christchurch menu for 23rd February.

A random draw run-through was held first, then a 5th “Final” heat seeded from the first 4 heats.

With 8 Drivers for the night, marshaling was stretched with only 4 at a time doing the whole track !

Interestingly Dave and Peter (D) had the closest racing.

The computer ranked Pete ahead of Dave when they both finished with 77.84, but Dave’s best run was on yellow lane with 20.80 and Pete’s best run was on red lane with only 20.79 !

I don’t know how the computer splits the tie ???

Qualifying results :-

1st   Adam       94.98 laps

2nd   Kerry      93.70

3rd   Barry (T)  92.31

4th   Baz        81.12

5th   Peter (D)  77.84

6th   Dave       77.84

7th   Peter (A)  74.29

8th   J T        68.73

The “Final” heats saw only 1 change from the qualifying results with Adam going from top spot to 4th after he pulled the plug early on in the race after a big tangle.

RACING GETTING BACK TO NORMAL IN 2010 AT CHRISTCHURCH

Serious racing resumed at the Christchurch club for 2010 and Group 12/15 were on the programme as the feature class. Barry Toomey had a convincing win with the remaining opposition finding it difficult to get on the quicker pace as the result showed. John Hawkins ran out of tyres after the first heat so it came down to a three horse race with the results as follows.

Barry Toomey 95.72, Barry Milicich 78.79, Kerry Radford 77.97, John Hawkins 8.68.

In the International 32 class John Hawkins proved too strong to head home Kiel Fortune and Pete Darrell.

John Hawkins 84.93, Kiel Fortune 81.99, Peter Darrell 71.94, Dave Reese 70.04, Shannon Williamson, Aaron 57.24

Next weeks racing will feature 1/24th V8 SUPERCARS so we should be back to some good hard and fast racing with all the boys back from their Christmas holidays.

The track has been cleaned and glued so we should see some some good lap numbers from everyone so we hope to have a big turnout of racers.

LETS SEE A BIG TURNOUT NEXT WEEK FOR THE 24TH V8 SUPERCARS.......cheers Barry Toomey
