Seasons greetings everyone, 24TH LADDER NIGHT BIGGER THAN TEXAS
An excellent field of 16 drivers turned out
for final ladder night for the year and i would like to thank all those
who came along. Drivers were split into 4 groups of 4 with the top 4 drivers going through to the A,B,C,D 1 off main finals. Heat 1 Jono Burnby 87.65,

1st December Just 7 drivers turned up for the 16D Int32 meeting on the 1st Dec 2009. The regulars missing in action were Chris, Jono, Peter Allen and both Barry’s. 4 of the drivers only had Falcon powered cars, so didn’t qualify for the feature-class (16D) results. A random draw "run-through" was held, leaving only 3 track marshalls ! K-Dog (Kiel) had his pinion spin on the motor in the first heat and was out for the rest of the night (which now gave 4 track marshalls). Shannon bent his chassis in a big crash early on and had serious handling issues the rest of the night. Adam had his silver Toyota flying around the track, but John was the fastest 16D powered Int32. 16D Int32 1st John 84.73 laps 2nd Kerry 80.96 3rd Peter D 77.84 Falcon Int32 1st Adam 90.55 laps 2nd Dave 73.49 3rd Shannon 55.43 4th K-Dog 15.09 Next week Fun Night ! (Probably Int32 Teams racing ?) Cheers, Kerry : )
17th November 9 Drivers ran on the 17th November in the Christchurch Int32 Ladder. The drivers had a random grid-draw 4 heat run-through first, seeding them in groups of 3 for a 1 heat final. Peter Darrell caused some major carnage in the heats as his car kept deslotting over the bridge. Dave did well getting into the “B” final, beating Chris in 2 heats. ; )
With John
and Adam away Barry T had an easy run to be the top qualifier.
Run-Through Results :- Barry T 89.72 laps Kerry 84.65 Barry M 82.25 Chris 79.03 Kiel 78.91 Dave 73.21 Peter A 71.46 Peter D 65.38

27th October
TOOMEY GOES BACK TO TOP OF 24TH LADDER
It was ladder night on the 27th October but this time it was for 24th sports cars and once again a good field of 10 runners confronted the starter. It was good to see Steve Welford back again and he seems to be getting a liking for these speed machines and there were only two notable absentees namely Adam Brice(overseas) and Jono Burnby (turned up but declined to race....... reasons unknown). Barry Toomey showed some serious pace and in the process broke two existing lap records on both yellow and red lanes getting in the 27 lap bracket for the first time. Drivers were split into two groups of 5 runnners and in the first group it was Welford who had a ding dong battle to hold out Bas Milicich and Chris Reese not to far behind. Results group 1 Steve Welford 94.30, Bas Milicich 91.91, Chris Reese 90.35, Kiel Fortune 88.50, Dave Reese 81.13. In the second heat it was Barry Toomey who had his Mercedes Ultimate GTP setting the pace with John Hawkins and Kerry Radford fighting out the minor money. Resuts group 2 Toomey 104.57, Hawkins 102.15, Radford 101.34, Peter Allen 96.06, Peter Darrell 90.65. C FINAL Darrell 23.56, Dave Reese 21.97, Fortune 20.99, Chris Reese 5.70 (broke lead wire) B FINAL Milicich 23.96, Welford 23.33, Peter Allen 2.91 A FINAL Toomey 27.33, Hawkins 26.47, Radford 9.92 (broke lead wire) Ladder places Toomey, Hawkins, Radford, Milicich, Welford, Allen, Darrell, Dave Reese, Fortune, Chris Reese. It was welcome back to the club for Russell Marks and he seems keen to get back to racing and Kerry Radford tested his 24th enduro car with a very impressive light set up leading up to the 15 hour Enduro in march 2010. In the International 32 race it was Dave Reese who lead home Rowan Burnby, Russell Marks and Shannon Williamson. Feature class this Tuesday night is Group 12/15 Sports and Int 32,s for the rest.
6th October
BRICE WINS V8 ROUND....FORD 1,2,3
Adam Brice kept up his recent good form to win the latest round of the V8 supercars held at the Christchurch track on the 6th of October heading home his Team Boss Barry Toomey in the A main. Brice looked very quick in the early practice session in his new Toomey Performance Racing Ford Falcon and has had a new lease of life since leaving his previous team Clark Racing. A good turnout of 10 drivers were split into two groups of 5 and the racing was very competitive with everyone giving it their best. Chris Reese looked quick and it was pleasing to see him make his first A main final in his new gold Ford Falcon. In the qualifying heat 1 Chris "Gold Finger" Reese showed good pace to win his group and it was good to see Reese finally showing some hidden form with Jono Burnby and Baz Milicich keeping him honest in the 4 races. Results heat 1 Chris Reese 93.53, Jono Burnby 90.07, Barry Milicich 90.02, Peter Darrell 85.95, Dave Reese 73.60. In heat 2 the pace stepped up and it was Brice who held out Toomey with Kerry Radford third. John Hawkins had a night he would rather forget and got involved with plenty of accidents which weren't his doing and so making the A main was always a tall order. Results heat 2 Adam Brice 100.52, Barry Toomey 99.41, Kerry Radford 94.98, John Hawkins 92.52, Peter Allen 92.02. C Main Final Milicich 23.39, Darrell 22.85, Dave Reese 19.18. B Main Final Hawkins 23.72, Allen 23.14, Burnby 21.41 A Main Final Brice 25.07, Toomey 24.77, Chris Reese 23.85. Next weeks feature class is International 32 16D,s.......see you then. Cheers Barry Toomey.

29th September Hello fellow slotties,
ADAM BRICE GOES TO THE TOP OF THE LADDER
IN INTERNATIONAL 32,s
It was our ladder night last tuesday the 29th september and it was good to see a reasonable turnout to contest this event. In the first run through it was Kiel Fortune who set the pace with pressure from Chris Reese but the rest of the field struggled to put the laps on the board and this showed in the results. Results Kiel Fortune 82.25,Chris Reese 82.08,Jono Burnby 80.09,Dave Reese 73.39,Shannon 53.19. The next group provided the best action with some hard out racing with Barry Toomey holding out Adam Brice and John Hawkins with Kerry Radford and Barry Milicich both finding the pace very hot. Results Barry Toomey 92.60,Adam Brice 92.00,John Hawkins,91.84,Kerry Radford 87.93,Barry Milicich 85.70. C Main results Chris Reese 19.34,Dave Reese 19.16,Jono Burnby 19.13,Shannon 15.14. In the B main Kerry Radford got out to a good lead and won easily with Milicich and Fortune battling out the other two places. B Main results Radford 21.80,Milicich 20.63,Fortune 20.31. In the A main Brice on yellow lane took off with Toomey close behind and Hawkins trying to say on the pace on the outside green lane. Toomey tried to stay close to Brice but had an off and couldnt make up the distance, with Hawkins finding it to tough on green lane. A Main results Brice 23.86,Toomey 23.45,Hawkins 22.80 This Tuesday night its V8 SUPERCARS so lets see another good turnout. Regards Barry Toomey
8th September 2009
The 8th
September was the 1/24th Ladder night.
1st September 2009 An increase in race distance from three to six minutes per lane contributed to a dramatic finish in the Christchurch Slot Car Club’s 1/24th V8 Supercar night on September 1. In a change of format, it was decided that four heats of six minutes duration be used to determine the placings, rather than the usual three minute qualifying heats and a one off final. Throughout the heats in the A final, John Hawkins (Falcon) and Barry Toomey (Commodore) tussled wheel to wheel, with Kerry Radford (Falcon) keeping them in sight. As an indication of the closeness of the competition, Hawkins did 48.65 laps on lane 1 to Toomey’s 48.28, on lane two Hawkins thought he felt his car’s motor tighten and eased off a little recording 47.42 to Toomey’s 48.55. On lane 4 it was Hawkins 48.62 and Toomey 48.56, but Toomey looked to likely to have an overall advantage by his better time on lane two 48.55. Into the final race Toomey, racing without Hawkins as opposition, looked to be on course for another 48-lap race, but with half a minute to run his car ground to a halt on the front straight – its Falcon motor had overheated and eventually seized. Hawkins and Radford both said they thought they felt their motors going off toward the end of the heats, which might cause a rethink about running longer races for the 1/24th cars at flat out pace with what, after all, are basically cheap throw away motors. A main
John Hawkins Falcon
193.25 laps In the B main one observer described the antics as a “Butchers Picnic’’ with cars flying off all over the place. Some of the drivers still need to learn that you can turn a lot more laps by just staying on. As it was, Chris Reese just sneaked in ahead of Peter Allen, the veteran racer Allen losing time on the blue lane, which seems to be his downfall most weeks. B Main

18th August 2009 Greetings fellow slotties, TOOMEY HANGS ON TO TOP SPOT It was 32 ladder night at the Christchurch Club on the 18th august and it was good to see 11 runners turn out.Adam Brice was back to see if he could break the up the Toomey/Hawkins show with his Toomey tuned and newly painted silver toyota and in the qualifying round he certainly looked very quick and one to beat in the final. Drivers were split into two groups and in the first run through Brice cleared out and left the rest in his dust to fight out the minor places. The other drivers battled to see who could fall off the most with Kiel Fortune winning that one with fewer offs. Results Adam Brice 92.32,Kiel Fortune 78.21,Jono Burnby 76.19,Peter Allen 74.74,Dave Reese 72.15,Chris Reese 66.88. In the second run through it was once again the Toomey and Hawkins show with Hawkins edging out his mate by 31 segments after Toomey suffered from lets say average marshalling on two ocassions.Kerry Radford hung in but couldnt break into the 23 laps bracket which was the required at the time. Results John Hawkins 92.74,Barry Toomey 92.43,Kerry Radford 88.73,Bas Milicich 84.12,Pete Darrell 80.54. In the C FINAL it was Chris Reese who won with 20.33 followed by Peter Allen 19.47 and Dave Reese 19.06. In the B FINAL it was Bas Milicich who survived the mayhem with a 21.04 to head home Kiel Fortune 21.04,Pete Darrell 20.30 and Jono Burnby 19.73. To the A FINAL and it was all on for young and old with Toomey getting away the quickest on red lane with Hawkins,Brice and Radford in hot pursuit but the drama unfolded with Toomey tangling with Hawkins but got put on first to get a small lead which he held to the finish.Radford got through to second place and kept his nerve to hold out a fast finishing Hawkins and Brice.Only 58 segments covered the field which was some of the closest racing we have had in an A main. The margins between 1st and second was 31 segments.second to third 17 segments and third to fourth 10 segments....who said slot car racing wasnt exciting. Overall Ladder Places Barry Toomey,Kerry Radford,John Hawkins,Adam Brice,Bas Milicich,Kiel Fortune,Pete Darrell,Jono Burnby,Chris Reese,Pete Allen,Dave Reese.
11th August 2009 On 11th August Christchurch ran their Grand Prix meeting. Firstly there was a support race for Parma32 cars with 4 drivers. Adam gave the other 3 drivers a slotcar lesson with Chris, K-Dog and Pete (D) having a close battle for 2nd spot. Results :- There were 8 drivers in the Grand Prix. Dave started off the first
heat with an axle washer jammed in the motor, and had to complete
that heat with another car. Later this caused his car to have a blown
motor, so Dave's race was over. Results :- Next week the Parma32 Ladder ! Cheers,
4th August 2009 With the track freshly cleaned records fell in the night’s featured class – Group 12/15 – at the Christchurch Slot Car Club’s August 4 meeting. With the support race drivers being permitted the option to race 1/24th Flexi GTP cars on this occasion, there were only four starters in the Group 12/15 races. John Hawkins took an early lead when Barry Toomey failed to re-adjust his controller to Group 12/15 settings after lending it to another competitor early in the night. Hawkins challenge on this night, however, was doomed to failure as with no other tyres available he started with a car that was marginal on ride height and despite setting a race record for the class on blue lane at 25.63 laps his car started bottoming out and Toomey took full advantage sweeping by with one race and taking a new record on red with a sizzling 25.63 laps. Amazingly, Paul Hamilton, who long ago left these shores for Australia, still holds two track records for the Group 12/15 class having set the green and yellow lane records back at the South Island Champs in 1999. Feature race results
Barry Toomey 100.24 laps Despite still experiencing wheel juddering problems with his 1/24th Adam Brice was too quick for the rest in the support races. Peter Darrell had perhaps his best race yet in taking out second place, well clear of Peter Allen who needs a more powerful engine and a high down force body to move up to the next step. Support race results
Adam Brice 97.38 laps
28th July 2009 Hawkins goes to the top in 24th ladder It was the 24th ladder night held last Tuesday 28th July and it was disappointing to see only 9 cars face the starter after such a good turnout the previous week, never the less the racing was fast and furious. 5 runners were in the first heat and it was Kerry Radford who managed to hold out a fast finishing Adam Brice with Jono Burnby picking up third place in his new Toomey build car. Brice still seemed to be having teething problems with his car but it improved during the nights racing and Lex Omand showed some pace at times. Heat 1 results Radford 100.06, Brice 99.84, Burnby 95.51, Omand 90.09, Dave Reese 79.66 In the second heat it was Barry Toomey who through down the gauntlet with his close rival John Hawkins and they had a ding dong battle over the 4 heats swapping the lead time and time again. Peter Darrell and Bas Milicich both struggled for race pace and had to settle for the minor money. Heat 2 results Toomey 103.37, Hawkins 102.93, Darrell 93.81, Milicich 87.02 In the C main Milicich just held out Reese with Omand having all sorts of issues with his car. Results Milicich 20.98, Reese 20.50, Omand 11.70. In the B main Brice said see you later and cleared out leaving Burnby and Darrell to fight for second. Results Brice 25.54, Darrell 23.27, Burnby 22.27. In the A main it was Hawkins and Toomey dicing for the lead with Radford not far behind but then Toomey's car seemed to loose some power and after a couple of offs it didn't look good for the defending champ. Hawkins lead with Radford now second but Toomey surged past Radford in pursuit of Hawkins and was catching but ran out of time. A relieved Hawkins held on to win narrowly by 7 segments Results Hawkins 26.06, Toomey 25.99, Radford 25.19.
The Christchurch Slot Car Club’s first race meeting for the new 1/24th V8 Supercar category was an outstanding success. 12 competitors contested the races with the Holden Commodore runners matching the Ford Falcons (its amazing how many people like cars that lose Bathurst and the championship and come from a bankrupt manufacturer – Ed). Qualifying races were held to determine “grid’’ positions for the six lap finals. It was disappointing to see Adam Brice’s Falcon still suffering from judder out of the corners and he pulled out of the qualifying races to concentrate on trying to find a remedy. John Hawkins had his Falcon quickly on the pace and had some mighty battles with Barry Toomey’s Commodore in the qualifying races. Hawkins (64.20 laps) top qualified from Toomey (64.06), Kerry Radford Falcon (62.50) and Barry Milicich Commodore (60.19). In the C final Brice had improved his car somewhat but had still not eliminated the chatter. His skill nevertheless gave him a comfortable win in the C final with 46.31 laps, dealing unsympathetically with his “team mate’’ Kiel Fortune on a couple of occasions. Kiel “K Dog’’ Fortune finished second 41.98 with Dave Reese having some teething problems in third. Lex Omand’s Commodore struck “gearbox’’ problems on a couple of occasions. The racing was truly fast and furious in the B final, with some drivers on the ragged edge. Despite a trip off the table with his Falcon, Jonno Burnby was impressive in winning with 45.98 laps. Peter Darrell (Commodore) battled hard with Peter Allen before finishing second on 44.78, while Peter Allen, who always goes well in 1/24th, third on 44.47. Then to the A Main, Toomey led away chased by Hawkins who immediately felt his car was not producing the power it had in the heats. Toomey then got tangled up with Barry Milliich whose Commodore had come off under the bridge. This allowed Hawkins a handy lead, but he had to pit to get quickly remedy a nearly burnt out braid and this allowed the battling Toomey and Radford to put him a lap down. While Toomey and Radford battled, Hawkins tore back to pass them and get himself on the same lap, but as expected Toomey stayed cool, while one off by Radford forced Kerry to settle for the runner up spot. The saloon cars provided a different challenge from the high down force sports/GT cars normally run in the 1/24th racing. The club was encouraged by the turn out of 13 members, one deciding not to race. If its close and exciting racing you’re after, come along on our next V8 Supercar race – the competition was very even and everybody is looking forward to next time.
Baz M provided an interesting interlude bringing a DVD and player to show a clip of a madman driving at extremely high speeds through Paris in record time with a Ferrari on the new big screen. Don’t try this at home! Thanks Barry.
14th July 2009
A
total of 11 drivers competed on the 14th July. The first heats of the night were for the Paul Welford Memorial 16D Parma Int32 challenge, with 6 drivers.
Good to see Lex back (warming-up for the V8’s next week no doubt), he had close racing with Dave, but Dave was just a little bit faster.
Our new media-star (with his face all over the
front of local newspapers) Peter (D) broke the 80 lap barrier and is
showing he can
John

5 drivers contested the last heats of the night with Falcon powered Int32s :-
Great to
see Dave’s mate Larry at the club doing extremely well first time up with
two heats of 15 laps !
Barry (M) 87.80 laps K-Dog 84.74 Chris 81.81 Peter (A) 74.33 Larry 55.55
Next week the inaugural 1/24th V8 SuperCar Race !!! Cheers, Kerry.
With the last few race nights having a low turnout and running pursuit racing only 8 racers turned out for our 32 ladder night held on the 7th of July. While the numbers were down we still had some good hard out racing so hopefully with our first ever 1/24th V8 race coming up on the 21st July this will get people excited and encourage them to get down to the track on Tuesday night. In the first heat it was Barry
Toomey who blitzed the field having to start in the slower heat after a
pinion came loose last time we ran our ladder night. Peter Darrell held
out Peter Allen and Dave Reese for the minor places. In the second heat John Hawkins struggling to find grip easily won from Kerry Radford, Bas Mlicich and Jono Burnby. Results:- Hawkins 89.05, Radford 84.46, Milicich 82.39, Burnby 77.37 In the B main Peter Darrell 20.83 fell off the least to head home Dave Reese 18.30, Peter Allen 18.09 and Jono Burnby 14.50 for places 5th to 8th. In the A main Barry Toomey who got taken out early (racing incident) by Hawkins the defending champion, fought back to win a tight tussle after Hawkins suffered during the race with a wrong tyre choice on his quick Clark built 32. Kerry Radford held on grimly for third with Bas Milicich having a night he would rather forget. Results:- Toomey 23.06, Hawkins 22.74, Radford 21.07, Milicich 20.54 for places 1st to 4th. Next week its a Int 32 16D night with the big V8 RACE THE FOLLOWING WEEK......
On tuesday 16th June we held our 24th ladder night and once again the racing was hot but the numbers were down with only 7 runners fighting out to see who was to be top dog for the month. Each driver had 4 races to set places for the A and B mains and in the first group it was Barry Toomey who blitzed the field as expected to easily head home Chris Reese and aka K Dog Kiel Fortune. Barry Toomey 100.96, Chris Reese 84.97, Kiel Fortune 71.76. In the second group it was John Hawkins who won from Barry Milicich,Peter Darrell and Peter Allen. John Hawkins 98.05, Barry Milicich 93.92, Peter Darrell 90.31, Peter Allen 87.99. No shows were Kerry Radford sunning himself on the gold coast, Adam Brice dose of the swine flu and Lex Omand watching coro street. New 24th cars are presently under construction at Toomey Performance Race Cars for Dave Reese and Jono Burnby. In the one off B MAIN final it was Reese who stayed on the most to beat home Allen and K Dog. 5th to 7th places Chris Reese 22.03, Peter Allen 21.99, Kiel Fortune 20.99. In the A MAIN it was Toomey who said see ya later and left Hawkins and Milicich to fight out second place. Both Hawkins and Milicich both were using new high down force bodies following the trend set by Kerry Radford. 1st to 4th places Barry Toomey 26.39, John Hawkins 24.50, Barry Milicich 23.79, Peter Darrell 21.61. In the 32 class warm up race it was Kiel Fortune who headed home Chris Reese, Jono Burnby and Dave Reese.
9th June 2009 Last tuesday night at the
christchurch club we had a handicap racing night and it was interesting to
see some how some people performed with a handicap added on and a few had
to race a lot harder than normal. After each driver having 4 two minute races the handicaps were sorted out and in the B FINAL it was Dave Reese who held on to beat Kiel Fortune from Peter Allen. Results Dave Reese 54.73, Kiel Fortune 54.23, Peter Allan 53.11, Jono Burnby 52.91, Peter Darrell 53.11 We had some computer problems so we had to split drivers into a A and B final. In the A FINAL it was surprisingly Barry Milicich off scratch giving Barry Toomey a .51 lap advantage with John Hawkins off 1.04 laps and Chris Reese 2.40 laps but when the dust settled after the final race it was Hawkins who prevailed with Toomey and Milicich tying. Performance of the night must go to Barry Milicich who finally got his act together and showed good pace when the pressure was on. Results John Hawkins 61.19,Barry Toomey/Barry Milicich 60.24,Chris Reese 20.27.
